From bra-less sheer top celeb guests, to a male streaker during Prabal Gurung’s show, to DNKY’s cast of transgenders and full figured models, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week this year has been as exciting as ever. Fashion week is one of the best ways to analyze trends from street style to runway. This years runway fashion and beauty have been all over the place. Here are a few of my favorite hairstyles on the runways:
20’s inspired, soft glamorous rolls
Embellished, voluminous undo, inspired from ballerinas, rose gardens, and Marie Antoinette
Ostrich feather embellishments
Imperfect chunky french braids with loads of texture
Sleek low ponytails under a thick black headband
Sleek elegant ponytails with Odile Gilbert Gold Clasps
Free spirited inspired low ponytails with flower embellishments
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wrapped up yesterday and has left us lusting over the latest designer looks for fall. Without a doubt, white is the new, unexpected “it” color for next season. While this light hue may seem like an unusual choice considering its contrast against the standard darker autumn shades of black, navy, olive, and plum, it definitely had a strong presence on the runway nevertheless. Derek Lam utilized black accents on his white pieces while Alexander Wang paired all white ensembles with black footwear. Rachel Zoe chose to mix stark white fabrics with cream knits. If you’re somewhat hesitant about pulling off the trend or wearing white after Labor Day, you could always try pairing a more subtle cream piece with statement items like a fur vest or a killer pair of black boots.

It’s that time of the year when celebrities come out of their winter hibernation and prowl the streets of New York for Fashion Week. This year has been a dream for those fashion hungry celebrities and insiders. With Oscar de la Renta having his show yesterday and Michael Kors being this afternoon, this week has been packed full of amazing shows dispalying beautiful pieces.
The Michael Kors show was full of tweeds, fur, lace, ponchos, jackets, dresses, hats, and more. The main color scheme was red, black, beige and grey. Dear Old Oscar picked very ritzy, feminine designs and silhouettes for his collection, including ladylike suits in tweed and pastels. These two powerhouses did certainly not disappoint this Fashion Week.

Just in time for New York’s Fashion Week, Condé Nast announced today changes at its magazines, reports WWD.com. Michael Carl, former fashion director at Allure will now be moving to Vanity Fair, where he will fill the position of fashion market director.
Who will be filling his shoes at Allure? Beginning February 14th, Treena Lombardo, who left her position at W last June, will be taking over Carl’s old position. Speaking of W, Talya Cousins, the senior accessories/jewelry editor at the magazine, will be leaving W to work at the free online shopping forum Open Sky as the director of merchandising.
In the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar, past FMDS Fashion Show judge and up-and-coming accessories designer Meredith German is featured in the Editor’s Choice “New Accessories Designers” feature for her brand Meredith Wendell. With her eclectic, hand-crafted belts, bags, and jewelry, Meredith German brought relevant insight as a judge (one of three) for the 2010 FMDS Fashion Show “Free the Beat.”
Now living in New York City, Meredith grew up in West Virginia and started Meredith Wendell with husband Wendell German in 2008. The brand was selected by Bazaar to showcase its merchandise at the magazine’s first-ever Accessories Bazaar held during New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, and as a result, was featured in the article along with the 17 other designers present at the event, including CFDA award-winner Alexis Bittar. Bazaar claims in the article that Meredith Wendell’s “classic bags have a fresh downtown feel.”
