One of my favorite parts about getting dressed every morning is accessorizing. Whether that’s with rings, bangles, headbands, or an understated necklace, accessories keep your wardrobe updated without having to actually spend money on new clothes! One of my favorite online sites that I just discovered is baublebar.com! I first heard about it after my blog crush Courtney Kerr (from Courtney Loves Dallas) collaborated with the online retailer to create a jewelry line. Her line features fabulous statement necklaces–but not the bubble necklaces trend that’s finally going out of style (thank god–why was this ever a thing?) Her jewelry is unique and sassy and absolutely perfect and affordable for dressing any outfit up.
What I love about the website is that every week they feature $10 and $20 dollar deals on jewelry pieces that don’t break the bank. If personalized jewelry is your thing, they’ve got you covered there too! Go check em’ out!
In case you missed fashion week, or haven’t had time to drool over all of the upcoming trends for fall, I’ve got you covered. One of my favorite trends I saw on the runway was fringe! It’s so fun and flirty, and gives off a romantic feel if paired with the right accessories. Michael Kors debuted the trend in overcoats, handbags and dresses (below). Other designers like Phillip Lim, Herve Leger, and Derek Lam also showcased the trend on their runways. We’ve seen fringe before on the runways but what’s different about it now, is that the fringes are softer and ornamented in a delicate manner. Be on the look out for fringe everything come this fall, whether it be accessories, garments, outerwear or detailing!
Want to add a little spice to your wardrobe? Try something new? Well what better way to do it than with a pair of knee high socks or a pair of funky printed pants!
Here are a few ideas of what outfits you can create with these items.
Here my friend Hannah has on a pair of loose fitting printed pants, paired with a black belt, a simple black t-shirt, and flats. So trendy! And yet so simple!
Above I am wearing knee high socks paired a pair of black panty hoes, a tight long sleeved dress, a black cardigan, and a chunky black necklace, and black pointed flats.
Here’s another example of something you can do with knee high socks.
I paired the same black knee highs, black tights, and black cardigan but instead underneath I wore a black tight skirt and a loose tank top. For my shoes I chose black combat boots. And of course, I ALWAYS accessorize.
So give it a try! You really can’t go wrong!
Sales! It’s that time of year again when retailers gear up for holiday shopping. What’s different about this year is that retailers are having black friday deals early to entice customers to shop all month long, and not just Black Friday–or Black Thursday as it should be called from now on. Many department stores like Target, Walmart, Macy’s and Kohl’s will open up between 6-8pm. So you can walk off that food coma in the department store aisles. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you should head out to Old Navy; they open at 9am on Thanksgiving day!
However, if you’re like me and don’t want to bother with all of the crowds but still want all of your favorite designer clothes, shoes, and accessories on sale (yes I said on sale) then you need to check out Nordstrom’s Women and children’s half yearly sale! Designers like Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Vince Camuto, Tory Burch, Trina Turk, and Burberry have select items up to 40% off. If shoes, and and handbags are your thing, then this is the sale for you! Sam Edelman, Dolce Vita, Coach, Diane von Furstenburg, and everyone’s favorite Frye boots are some of the featured designer shoe and handbags with discounts.
My favorite part of the sale? The jewelry of course! I snagged this gold letterpress Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace, and House of Harlow sunburst necklace–both 50% off regular price! The half yearly sale is constantly changing so be sure to check back to see what else has been added!
So unless you live under a rock you’ve probably noticed all of the celebrities sporting knit beanies recently. Stars from Rachel Bilson, to Orlando Bloom, Miley Cyrus, and namely, Rihanna, have been spotted wearing the trend. It was also huge on the runways for fall 2013. Designers like Alexander Wang, BCBG and DKNY (below) previewed them in their ready to wear fashion shows. What I love about it is that they’re super comfy and casual, not to mention perfect for the cold winters in Blacksburg! Though it is more of a street-style trend, you can still sport a beanie while you travel to and from work to keep you warm!
So it’s no secret that leather is HUGE this season (go check out my post from a few weeks ago, “Leather Weather”). It’s classic, comfortable, and goes with everything, BUT it can also expensive. And if you’re like me, and a broke college student, then buying leather apparel isn’t exactly ideal. I mean there’s rent, books, gas, and bar money, so let’s face it, not many of us can afford that soft italian leather jacket we’ve secretly been eyeing. In my opinion, it’s all about the details and how you accessorize! Try finding a jacket, like my BDG camo jacket (Urban Outfitters), that has subtle leather details on the zippers, pockets, and shoulder. Also, leather jewelry like my BP black, studded wrap bracelet from Nordstrom is great accessory if you’re looking to add a little edge. And finally, if you can find some money in your budget, consider splurging on a leather purse. My black and white Kate Spade is my go-to-bag. It’s classic and is perfect for any season!
For the first two years of college, I probably wasted hours of precious time sorting through my tiny ID pouch, trying to find my student ID or debit card or room key. I know the cashiers dreaded me getting to the front of the line. Not anymore! The magic wallet is a lifesaver! It’s the perfect way for college students to keep their daily necessities all in one organized place!
