Some days start off worse than others. Can you say January 1st, July 5th, and whatever the day after St. Patty’s day is. Well today might just be one of those days for you. Through the power of science you can cleanse or scrub away last night while also adding some pep to your step. Clean and Clear offers a line of morning burst cleansers and scrubs, some even have caffeine in the formula to keep those pesky dark circles at bay. Cheer up, pop some Aspirin, chug some water, and throw on some sunnies. You got this!
Tonight is the FMDS Urban Jungle Fashion Show!!!!!!!
Come join us at 8pm tonight in the Squires Common Wealth Ballroom.
Student: $6; General: $7; VIP $15
I am so excited for the show this year. My colleague Amanda Locke and I joined forces to design five spectacular outfits. Our excitement to see our garments go down the runway is incredible. Our unique, edgy outfits fit perfectly into the Urban Jungle theme. We incorporated unique items such as chains, nuts, and washers.
Amanda and I aren’t the only ones contributing to this fashion show of the year! There are roughly a dozen other designers, designing everything from Hokie wear to extravagant, unique dresses! This is not a show to miss!
Here’s a sneak preview of Amanda and I’s garments. Come out and join your fellow Hokies in the excitement; we would love your support!
Friday was Virginia Tech’s Gobblerfest, a type of fair where all the organizations introduce themselves to students. We had an awesome turnout, and here are some pictures of our lovely ladies! For anyone who attends Virginia Tech, our first general body meeting will be Monday the 17th at 7pm at the Duck Pond!
This past Saturday FMDS members gathered in Owen’s Banquet Hall to honor Virginia Tech’s Apparel Program with parents, friends and faculty. Student garment designs and CAD work on display demonstrated the high talent within the Apparel Product Development and Merchandising major.
Peggy Quesenberry received an eponymous award for her endless support to FMDS and Apparel Department. The Peggy Quesenberry Award will be given out each year to a different faculty member. More awards were given out to devoted FMDS members for their service to the organization and school, as well as their capacity to thrive in the textile and apparel industry. Honorees included:
- Scholarship, Priya Singh: Dedicated to both their academics and the fashion industry
- Outstanding New Member, Turner Widgen: Shows outstanding service to FMDS as well as within the apparel industry and the school
- Most Valuable Member, Alison Firich: Has demonstrated a valiant effort in FMDS, the AHRM program and/or in the fashion industry
- Outstanding Senior, Christie Bradshaw: Has demonstrated great service to the organization, the ARHM program and/or shows great promise in the fashion industry
The evening consisted of a delicious catered dinner, live music, a silent auction and welcoming speeches by FMDS Advisor, Dr. Luann Gaskill; Gala coordinator, Lauren Ehrensberger; and FMDS president, Sheridan Tupman. FMDS alum Alana Marrie addressed members on her journey through the daunting world of fashion. Her road to success certainly wasn’t easy; but she kept a persistent attitude and never gave up on her goal of making a mark on the industry. She left us with this,
I hope to see you all one day in New York, painting the town maroon and orange.
