Earlier this year I stumbled across Kristina Bazan’s blog, Kayture. Not only is it a clever play on words (think couture, people) but it’s absolutely amazing!! 20 and Swiss born, Kristina travels around the world with her partner James Chardon blogging about her fashion adventures and finds. As if I didn’t feel inadequate enough, she also regularly works high-end brands, from Louis Vuitton, Dolce&Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent and Dior to Mango, Guess, and Jimmy Choo. Not to mention she has been featured in magazines like Vogue and Cosmo. She usually updates her website every 2-3 days sometimes more frequently; but her instagram account has several posts a day!
Her website is kayture.com
Her Instagram account is kristina_bazan
First it was the cut outs in body con dresses, and then summer brought on the monokini, and now the one trend I’ve been obsessed with lately is cut out booties! Chanel predicted back in Spring 2013 that they would be huge for fall, and they most definitely were, so huge that they’ve carried over into Spring. Steve Madden and Jeffrey Campbell make stunning cut out boots for those who don’t want to break the bank.
My advice: check out urbanoutfitters.com They’re having an amazing sale and even have some cut out booties on sale!
So now that the holiday season has officially begun, it’s time to start shopping for all of those holiday parties. No, I’m not talking about sequined dresses and jewel toned dreesses. I’m referring to those tacky Christmas sweaters we’ve all come to love. If you’re in college, this is an absolute must. You’ll inevitably be invited to several Tacky Christmas sweater parties, and you don’t want to be caught wearing the same Christmas cat jingle vest (no, I’m not kidding) twice. Believe it or not, Walmart has a pretty solid collection of heinous sweaters. If you’re looking to go all out, check out myuglychristmassweater.com. Let’s just say this website allows you to shop for your sweater from several categories including, 80’s, lights, naughty, and ‘the holy grail;’ so you are sure to find a gem. If you don’t feel like spending much on a holiday sweater, go to your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or Thrift Store. There’s bound to be grandma’s out there that’ve dontated a few ridiculous sweaters.
So unless you live under a rock you’ve probably noticed all of the celebrities sporting knit beanies recently. Stars from Rachel Bilson, to Orlando Bloom, Miley Cyrus, and namely, Rihanna, have been spotted wearing the trend. It was also huge on the runways for fall 2013. Designers like Alexander Wang, BCBG and DKNY (below) previewed them in their ready to wear fashion shows. What I love about it is that they’re super comfy and casual, not to mention perfect for the cold winters in Blacksburg! Though it is more of a street-style trend, you can still sport a beanie while you travel to and from work to keep you warm!
So it’s no secret that leather is HUGE this season (go check out my post from a few weeks ago, “Leather Weather”). It’s classic, comfortable, and goes with everything, BUT it can also expensive. And if you’re like me, and a broke college student, then buying leather apparel isn’t exactly ideal. I mean there’s rent, books, gas, and bar money, so let’s face it, not many of us can afford that soft italian leather jacket we’ve secretly been eyeing. In my opinion, it’s all about the details and how you accessorize! Try finding a jacket, like my BDG camo jacket (Urban Outfitters), that has subtle leather details on the zippers, pockets, and shoulder. Also, leather jewelry like my BP black, studded wrap bracelet from Nordstrom is great accessory if you’re looking to add a little edge. And finally, if you can find some money in your budget, consider splurging on a leather purse. My black and white Kate Spade is my go-to-bag. It’s classic and is perfect for any season!
Just when we thought there was already enough pressure on us to have a toned, flat stomach for summer, what makes matters worse (actually better) is that the bare midriff is the new trend for spring 2013. Designers from Kenzo (below), Louis Vuitton, and Loewe showcased the trend on their spring 201 3 runways. Not to mention the trend flows nicely into summer. For a more laid back look, you can try pairing the crop top with a maxi skirt or high-waisted pants to balance the look. To add even more of an edge to your style, you can wear the trend, while showing off your toned tummy, by color blocking or pairing it with a geo-print skirt or shorts. Either way, the possibilities are endless for this ultra-alluring trend!
