Christopher Burch has filed a lawsuit against designer Tory Burch, his ex-wife. The problem seems to revolve around the fact that Christopher wants to sell his stake in Tory Burch LLC, and Tory isn’t making it easy. Allegedly she has hijacked Chris in his attempts to sell his stake. Rumors are swirling that Tory wants to sue her ex-husband over trade dress infringement or usurpation of corporate opportunity. Chris and Tory each own 28.3 percent of the company.
According to WWD, Chris filed a “6-point complaint against his ex-wife, her business, and ‘individual board members of Tory Burch and Isla Capital, a subsidiary of a Mexican private equity firm that took a stake in Tory Burch in 2009.'” Phew! Basically it’s a battle of the exes and there’s a whole lot of moolah at stake. Rule of thumb: never go into business with someone you might end up divorcing. It’s just not a good idea.
