Movie Inspiration: Blade Runner

Blade Runner is not the movie you’d immediately think of to watch with friends on a lazy Sunday. The 1982 sci-fi movie is primarily famous for making nerdy guys drool. However, Sean Young’s character in the movie, Rachael, inspires me fashion-wise so much that I’ll watch the movie just to catch a glimpse of her effortless style. That red lipstick. The crazy hairdo. Those structured, sleek, femme fatale suits. Rachael never seemed to try too hard, and always had a classic, crisp outfit put together. She oozed confidence and sex appeal even when wearing a shirt buttoned up to her neck. Her tailored clothes showed off her curves without revealing too much skin. I also love that the outfits were devoid of bright color: Rachael stuck mostly to black, white, gray, and tan, with a splash of red thrown in here and there. Call me crazy, but I’m even digging the shoulder pads. It was the 80s, after all. Go big or go home.

Check out Rachael’s first scene in the movie here.
