It was announced today that Macy’s Herald Square flagship store in New York will be getting a $400 million revamp. The renovation will begin early spring 2012 and is expected to take four years to complete. 100,000 square feet of additional selling space will be added to the store, which already takes up an entire city block. All ten-and-a-half levels will be affected, as well as the majority of the departments.
Some of the new changes include adding 300 more dressing rooms, installing interactive store directories and live video feeds of nationwide Macy’s events, and expanding the women’s shoe department.
A brew pub will be added, as well as a table-service restaurant on the sixth floor that will provide its diners with an impressive view of the Empire State Building and Midtown Manhattan. Though there will be a great deal of restoration and remodeling, the historical integrity of certain aspects of the store, like the wooden escalators, will be preserved.
