The Council of Fashion Designers of America presented the 2011 CFDA Awards to deserving talent in the fashion industry on June 6 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.  The event was sponsored by Swarovski for the tenth year in a row, and was hosted by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.  Below are some of the most notable results:

Womenswear Designer of the Year:  Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler

Menswear Designer of the Year:  Michael Bastian

Accessory Designer of the Year:  Alexander Wang

The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award:  Marc Jacobs

Gucci released that it will be designing pieces for Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine for their North American tour, which began on June 10 at Bonnaroo.  “When Florence first came onto the scene, I was captivated by her eccentric style and her willingness to dare,” said Frida Giannini, creative director of Gucci. “I used one of Florence’s songs, ‘Hurricane Drunk,’ to set the mood for my Autumn/Winter women’s show, as she was truly an inspiration for this collection as a modern day icon with her cinematic allure and powerful presence.” (

The Louis Vuitton campaign image of Angelina Jolie shot by Annie Leibovitz has been released.  Jolie is one of many celebrities featured in the brand’s “Core Values” campaign, which features celebrities in real settings posing with iconic and timeless Vuitton pieces.  Jolie is pictured in Cambodia, the country from which she adopted her first son Maddox, with her own six-year-old monogrammed Alto carryall bag.  The campaign will run alongside the brand’s current seasonal fashion campaign. Jessica Simpson will be featured as a celebrity mentor on NBC’s new reality show, Fashion Star, which debuts spring 2012.  The show, hosted by Elle Macpherson, will challenge 14 aspiring designers to compete each week to ultimately land a multimillion dollar contract to create a fashion line to be sold at three different retailers.
