Not Everyone’s Happy About Blake Lively for Chanel

Back in January, Blake Lively was chosen by Karl Lagerfeld to be the face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag line. With the introduction of the newly printed ads, murmurs of criticism from the fashion world have surfaced.

Insiders of the fashion industry do not agree with her “off-brand look,” says the NY Daily News. To them Blake Lively is too “American” and not enough of the European sophistication that Chanel is used to.

Mr.Lagerfeld is ecstatic about Ms. Lively being the face of his collection, and it is this “American” look that drew him toward her for the ads. Back when she was officially chosen in January, Karl Lagerfeld told WWD.com that “She’s a kind of American dream girl,” the girl he wants in his ads.

It also should be said that this is not the first time someone was chosen and groans were heard from some critics, as Natalia Vodianova’s campaign caused a stirred when it first surfaced.
