Designers certainly did not disappoint last week. There was a little bit of retro, a splash of sequins, and an overdose of style. Even the non-fashion guru would port some the looks from multiple ready-to-wear collections. The most significant trend which one may discern from viewing the shows is emphasis on neutrals this spring. Designers stuck with the same palette- khaki, white, grey and black galore. Ranging from Alice & Olivia to Valentino, the neutral theme was global. What is quite remarkable is that even though there was little color, the mixing of neutrals still brought life and vibrance to the runways.
For these reasons, the spring collections shown last week in New York have the potential to speak to a much wider audience than usual. It will be interesting to see how Fashion Week in the fall compares with the spring.
