Billy Reid, an Alabama-based fashion designer, was awarded the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s grand prize this past week. This is the seventh year this prestigious award established by Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Every year, one grand prize is handed out. The grand prize recipient wins $300,000 to go towards their business and a one-year mentorship with a top industry professional to learn from. Along with the prize money and mentorship opportunity, the winner is presented with a commissioned bronze award created by artist Rachel Feinstein.
The award show was accompanied by a formal dinner, with key speakers Karl Lagerfeld and Carey Mulligan. Celebrities such as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Leighton Meester, and Anna Paquin attended. Last year’s Fashion Fund recipient Sophie Theallet also attended the award banquet.
