Zac Posen, Balenciaga Feature Plus-Size and ‘Everyday’ Women in Spring 2011 Shows

Designers Zac Posen and Nicolas Ghesquiere (Balenciaga) joined in the above-size-zero movement by including plus-size models and everyday women for their Spring 2011 collection runway shows for Paris Fashion Week.  Plus-size models such as Crystal Renn (pictured) walked among the familiar runway faces for Zac Posen’s show.  Guardian.Co.Uk quotes Posen saying backstage that he wanted to make clothes “for women who love life, and all the best things in it- sex, friendship, food.”

Even more unique, Nicolas Ghesquiere acquired some of his models by picking women who inspired him off the street to walk in his show.  He also included veteran models Amber Valetta and Stella Tennant, as well as pregnant model Miranda Kerr.

With these distinguished designers joining in on the movement to eliminating (or at least reducing the amount of) pin-thin models, it could cause other designers to take notice and follow suit.  What do you think?
